Chapter 14

Fresh was sitting on the bed telling Kelly and Carmen about Lady’s proposal. The girls were happy about hearing they had someplace to stay as well as turn their tricks.

“When we going to move, Daddy?” Asked Kelly, as she lay across the bed on her stomach.

“As soon as Florence...” Fresh was cut off by a knock on the door. He got up and answered the door, expecting it to be one of the new girls coming to see what he was up too, instead, it was Florence, all smiles. “Damn, Florence,” he said, “We was just talking about you. Come on in, I got some good news for you.”

“Naw, Daddy, I got some good news for you first,” Florence said, as she came in while digging into her bra.

“Is that right,” Fresh, responded, while locking the door, “What happened, did you get an extra hundred or two from your trick?”

“Un-un, Daddy. Better than that,” Florence said, while pulling the wad of money from her underclothes, “Look Daddy, I got almost three-thousand dollars here. Didn’t I do good?”

Fresh took the money and quickly thumbed through it, seeing only hundreds flash under his thumb.

“Damn, baby girl, where did you get all this?” He asked, handing the money back to Florence, “I know your trick didn’t pay you that much did he?”

“Naw, Daddy, not really. I robbed the mutha when he fell asleep behind my good lovin’,” Florence said, while looking at Kelly, who was all eyes herself.

“You did what, woman!?" Fresh exploded, while turning in circles his hands flailing and he looking at the floor. "Damn, Flo, that will mess up my thing in the hotel. Why did you do it? You know I ain't into stealing from our tricks. It can't bring nothing but trouble, if not from the trick, the police. It, just never pays unless you is on the move and don't have to worry about being hassled by POPO. Why did you do it? I don't understand.”

“I don’t know, Daddy. His wallet was laying there on the floor with all that money in it, and I guess it was too much for me to resist. What do you mean, mess up your thing at the hotel?”

“Think, Florence, think. If that trick complains to the hotel security, let alone report to the management, they might shut the whole damn thing down. You might have messed things up for all the girls that work the place. You didn't stop to think about that, did you? Christ, woman. Jesus, I wonder if Dix told the trick his name. Damn, if he did, the police might find him and he might lead them right back to me. Wait, come to think about it, Dix don’t know where I’ll be. That’s right, Dix don’t have no idea I’ve moved out of the townhouse. Damn, that was right on time. I wonder if Melvin, the doorman, knows you’re one of my girls? Maybe I can still get some business from him if he doesn't know about you.
